When the upstairs shower weakens as another tap opens, the answer starts with the water supply—not simply a bigger pump. PEP assesses, plans and installs water pressure boosters and accumulators for Fulham homes, matching the system to the demand you want it to meet.
From compact improvements to stored-water installations for several bathrooms, we coordinate the pipework, electrical supply, controls and commissioning. The result is a clearly defined upgrade, with the equipment and its operating limits explained before work begins.
Fulham SW6 · Begin with the household
Water delivery planned around your Fulham home
A loft conversion, larger shower or additional bathroom can change what a home needs from its incoming supply. A system that served one bathroom adequately may struggle when the household begins using several outlets together.
We work with owners improving an existing home and those planning a wider refurbishment. In a house, the brief may centre on supplying an upper-floor en-suite while retaining good performance downstairs. In a flat, the first question may be whether the limitation sits within the apartment or in a shared service.
Our installation proposal follows that assessment. Where a faulty valve, restricted pipe or supplier-side problem is responsible, we explain the appropriate next step rather than assume that additional equipment is needed.

01 · Understand the supply
Find the restriction before choosing the equipment
Pressure describes the force available to move water; flow describes how much water reaches a point over time. A healthy reading with every tap closed does not establish how the installation behaves during a busy morning.
We assess standing and running pressure, available flow and the distribution route. Relevant checks include pipe sizes, valves, existing pressure controls, elevation and the demand of the selected fittings. Poor delivery at one tap needs a different investigation from a reduction throughout the property.
If performance changes by time of day, further measurements may be needed. For a sudden loss of supply, checking for an interruption or fault comes before planning a permanent booster installation.
Our guide to understanding water pressure and flow explains the distinction. This service concerns water delivered to taps and showers, not the pressure shown on a sealed central-heating system.
A clear brief · Measurable performance
Another bathroom changes the brief—not just the pipework
Consider a Fulham terrace being extended upwards: a new loft en-suite joins the family bathroom, while the kitchen remains in regular use downstairs. Specifying a pump from the bathroom count alone misses the demands of the actual fittings and the length of time they run.
We turn that layout into an agreed set of requirements before selecting equipment:
- Which outlets operate together: the particular showers, bath fillers and taps—not every outlet assumed to be fully open.
- What they need at their location: flow and pressure after allowing for height and pipework losses.
- How long demand continues: the usable reserve required and the opportunity to refill it between periods of use.
- How the installation will be checked: the simultaneous-use conditions to reproduce during commissioning.
This also helps sequence a refurbishment. Space, service routes and electrical provision can be resolved before joinery and bathroom finishes make changes disruptive.
| Arrangement | Where it may help | What must be allowed for |
|---|---|---|
| Compact inline mains booster | A modest improvement where incoming conditions and the product's permitted application are suitable. | Limited output, power, access and the capacity of the incoming feed. It is not automatically a multi-bathroom solution. |
| Passive water accumulator | Short periods of higher demand where sufficient pressure is available to charge a reserve. | A finite usable volume, charging conditions and replenishment time. It does not generate pressure above its charging supply. |
| Pump-assisted accumulator | A compatible arrangement combining a pressure increase with stored water. | The pump, vessel and controls need to work as a system. Both delivery and reserve recovery require assessment. |
| Break tank and booster pump | Higher demand where a suitable cold-water tank can buffer the difference between incoming flow and household use. | Space, refill rate, hygienic storage, full weight, overflow arrangements and servicing. The reserve is still finite. |
For accumulator installation, nominal vessel capacity is not the same as usable water volume. We consider the reserve available under the proposed operating conditions, rather than select on the largest litre figure.
Where appropriate, improving the incoming supply pipe may be worth comparing with stored-water equipment. A conventional shower pump intended for a gravity-fed system is a separate solution, not a universal substitute for a mains booster.
Read our water booster and accumulator guide for a fuller explanation of the options.

03 · Coordinate cold and hot water
Plan cold-water delivery and hot-water capacity together
A stronger cold-water supply cannot compensate for insufficient hot-water capacity. An unvented cylinder must hold and recover enough hot water for the proposed use; a combi boiler can only heat water at the rate its output allows.
We consider the boiler or cylinder alongside the new water-supply arrangement, including compatible pressures, distribution and the requirements of the shower fittings. Existing safety and pressure-control provisions must remain correctly integrated.
If the refurbishment includes unvented cylinder installation in Fulham, both parts can be planned together. Where existing equipment remains suitable, a water-delivery upgrade need not automatically become a cylinder or boiler replacement.
Private homes · Shared responsibilities
Flats, shared supplies and managed buildings
For a converted flat near Fulham Broadway or a managed apartment in Sands End, the ownership of the supply matters as much as the equipment footprint. We establish whether the property has an independent feed, shares a riser or already receives water from communal boosting equipment.
A limitation affecting several apartments may need investigation at building level. A private installation should not be proposed without understanding its effect on the shared system and the permissions required.
Where freeholder or management approval is needed, we identify the proposed alterations, access and planned service interruptions. Delivery routes and protection of common areas are considered before equipment is ordered.
04 · Space now, access later
Make the system fit—and remain serviceable
A cupboard that accommodates a vessel may still be unsuitable for the complete installation. We allow for connections, inspection, cleaning where applicable and eventual equipment replacement. The full operating weight and supporting structure also need consideration; structural advice may be required.
Location influences noise as well as convenience. Mounting, pipe supports and vibration transmission matter, particularly beside bedrooms or neighbouring flats. Enclosing a pump behind joinery does not make it silent.
Stored-water arrangements need suitable hygiene provisions, water turnover and maintenance access. Storage capacity should match demand and recovery, rather than simply fill the available space.
We can coordinate this layout with wider Fulham heating and plant-room installations. Where a leak could damage finished rooms, suitable water leak protection options can also be considered.

One team · A defined installation
One coordinated installation scope
The work around a booster is as important as the equipment itself. PEP brings the agreed plumbing and electrical requirements into one proposal, reducing the risk of essential connections being left between separate scopes.
- Assessment and selection. Establish the supply, expected demand, suitable arrangement and installation constraints.
- Pipework and connections. Define routes, isolation, supports and required protection, coordinated with any wider plumbing installations in Fulham.
- Power and controls. Include the appropriate supply, protection and means of isolation through our electrical installation in Fulham service.
- Commissioning and handover. Check the completed system under agreed operating conditions and provide the relevant settings, operating information and maintenance requirements.
Pump selection is based on the required operating point: the pressure available at the necessary flow. A manufacturer's maximum pressure and maximum flow figures should not be treated as though both are delivered together.
A quotation for the complete scope
Water booster installation cost in Fulham
The cost of an accessible inline booster is not comparable with a stored-water system serving several floors. The equipment price is only one part of either project.
The quotation accounts for the selected arrangement, usable storage, pipework alterations, electrical work, controls and commissioning. Access, supports, acoustic measures and overflow or drainage provisions can also affect the scope.
We set out inclusions, exclusions and VAT treatment, with any building work, making good or third-party supply alterations identified. This gives you a basis for comparing complete installations rather than apparently similar pumps.
Photographs and refurbishment plans help us understand the proposal. Final equipment selection and installation pricing follow the assessment of the property and supply.
Requirements · Permissions · Handover
Notifications, permissions and commissioning
The applicable water-company requirements must be addressed before installation. Water Regs UK's pump notification guidance identifies pumps creating demand above 12 litres per minute as requiring notification to the water undertaker, including direct and indirect connections.
A break tank is therefore not an automatic exemption. Equally, a smaller pump does not remove the need to comply with the other requirements for its application. We establish the relevant notification and consent route for the proposed work.
Lease or building-management permissions are separate matters. Alterations to protected building fabric may also require specific checks.
Commissioning should confirm how the installed system responds to the agreed demand, not just that the motor runs. Handover covers normal operation, isolation, any limitations and the inspection or servicing required by the equipment manufacturer.

Before you book
Questions before choosing a water booster
Can a booster help when two showers are used at the same time?
Yes, where the complete system can meet their combined requirements. We assess the fittings, duration of use, incoming supply and hot-water capacity. Some projects need stored water; others may be better served by correcting a restriction. Two bathrooms alone do not establish the specification.
Do I need a pump, an accumulator or a break tank?
The measurements and pattern of use determine that choice. A pump, a pressurised reserve and a tank-fed arrangement perform different roles. We explain which options fit the supply and available space, including whether improvements without additional pumping are practical.
Can a compact mains booster supply a loft bathroom?
Possibly, if its available output suits the bathroom after allowing for elevation, pipe losses and other demand. Being physically small enough to fit does not establish that it can deliver the required performance upstairs.
Can you install a system in a flat with a shared supply?
It depends on the shared infrastructure, responsibility for the pipework and any existing communal equipment. Permissions and the impact on other users must be considered before selecting a private installation. Some problems require a building-wide solution.
Will a new unvented cylinder solve low water pressure?
Not by itself. It stores hot water but relies on a suitable water supply. A cylinder upgrade and a delivery upgrade may be planned together, but one should not be sold as a substitute for the other.
How much space does an accumulator or stored-water system need?
That depends on usable storage and the selected arrangement. The assessment includes connections, maintenance clearances, support and the route for bringing equipment in and replacing it later—not just the dimensions of the vessel or tank.
How noisy is a water booster, and where can it be installed?
Noise depends on the equipment, operating conditions, location and mounting. We consider transmission through pipework and building fabric when choosing a position. A passive accumulator has no pump motor, but a pump-assisted system should not be described as silent.
Do I need to notify Thames Water or obtain other consent?
The proposed arrangement determines the water undertaker's requirements. Separate freeholder, lease or management permissions may apply. These checks belong before installation; adding storage does not automatically remove the notification requirement.
What is included in a water booster installation quote?
The defined equipment and associated work, including relevant plumbing, power, controls, testing and handover. We state exclusions, VAT treatment and any unresolved investigations or third-party work so the extent of the project is clear.
What happens when the stored reserve runs out?
The system can no longer sustain demand beyond what its incoming supply can support; pump protection may limit or stop operation. Behaviour depends on the design. Refill time and usable reserve must therefore be considered alongside the required peak flow.
