Whether you are replacing a Megaflo in a flat or planning stored hot water for an extended family home, we establish what the installation needs before choosing the equipment. The result is a defined scope, with the water supply, household demand and available space considered from the outset.

01 · Where does your project begin?

What needs to change in your hot-water system?

Replacing an existing cylinder

A replacement should address why the current installation no longer works for you. The vessel may have failed, the household may need more hot water, or the surrounding equipment may be due for renewal.

We assess what can remain and what needs changing alongside the cylinder. A cold shower alone does not prove the vessel needs replacing: a valve, immersion heater or control fault may be repairable. Where replacement is appropriate, we check that the new specification still suits the home.

Moving from vented to unvented hot water

Changing a gravity-fed arrangement involves more than swapping tanks. The incoming supply, existing pipework, heating connections and safety arrangements all need reviewing. An unvented installation may remove the need for the cold-water storage cistern feeding the hot water; a separate heating feed-and-expansion tank is a different consideration.

Our vented-to-unvented conversion guide explains the wider changes.

Adding bathrooms or renovating the house

A loft shower room or a larger family bathroom changes demand on the existing system. Before the layout is fixed, we can plan the cylinder and connections alongside your plumbing installation in Fulham, avoiding decisions about essential services being left until the cupboards and finishes are complete.

02 · Understand the available water

First establish what the water supply can deliver

An unvented cylinder stores hot water under pressure. It does not create additional capacity in a restricted incoming water supply.

We assess pressure and flow at the property, including behaviour under demand. A strong reading with the taps closed is not enough to establish performance while several outlets are running. Existing restrictions and shared supplies need consideration where relevant.

The assessment informs the installation proposal: what performance is realistic, whether supply improvements are necessary and which work belongs in the cylinder quotation. Our guide to water pressure and flow explains why these are different questions.

Where boosting or additional storage is justified, it needs its own suitable design. We do not add a pump as an automatic answer to poor performance. Read about home water pressure boosters for the wider options.

03 · Terraces · Conversions · Apartments

Different Fulham homes need different installation plans

Extended terraces and family houses

For a house around Parsons Green, the Peterborough Estate or Munster Village, the question may be how to serve a new bathroom while keeping the existing rooms working well. We consider the whole arrangement, including the retained boiler, cylinder position and routes to the outlets, rather than size the new equipment from the bedroom count alone.

Converted flats and maisonettes

In a converted property, the space around the cylinder can be as important as its capacity. Shared entrances, stairs, neighbouring accommodation and existing service routes affect the work. We establish access and isolation arrangements, and identify any building-management coordination needed before the installation is booked.

Modern apartments and managed buildings

For an apartment in Sands End or around Imperial Wharf, we first identify the existing hot-water arrangement. It may use an individual electric cylinder, another private system or communal heating equipment such as a heat interface unit. These are not interchangeable installation briefs.

Where the flat has its own cylinder, the proposal must suit its power supply, controls and building arrangements. If services are shared, we establish the boundaries of the work with the relevant parties rather than assume an individual replacement is the right solution.

04 · Match the equipment to the home

Direct, indirect and Megaflo cylinder installations

Indirect cylinders connected to a boiler

An indirect cylinder uses a heat exchanger to heat the stored water from a suitable external source, usually a boiler. We consider the source, cylinder and controls together so that reheating matches the intended use.

A serviceable, compatible boiler may be retained. If a new boiler is also needed, our boiler installation service in Fulham covers the wider project, including suitable Vaillant and Viessmann systems. Boiler warranties and cylinder warranties remain separate.

Direct electric cylinders

A direct electric cylinder heats its stored water with immersion heaters. For a replacement in a flat or an all-electric home, we assess the heating arrangement, electrical supply, isolation and timer or control requirements.

The normal heating schedule and any boost function should suit the household and its electricity tariff. We explain how to operate the selected arrangement, including what the different controls actually do.

Megaflo installation and replacement in Fulham

Megaflo is a product range, not a generic term for every unvented cylinder. We assess an appropriate model against the heat source, required storage, dimensions and installation conditions rather than assume that every Megaflo is equivalent.

If a heat pump forms part of your future plans, mention it at the assessment. Compatibility needs checking against the proposed cylinder and heat source; it should not be assumed simply because the cylinder is new.

05 · Demand, storage and recovery

Size for the way the bathrooms will be used

Two showers used together create a different demand from two bathrooms used at separate times. A deep bath, guests staying regularly or a change in household size can also alter the requirement.

We look at the amount of hot water needed during the busiest period and how quickly the selected system can replenish it. The shower and bath fittings, expected duration of use and heating schedule help define that brief.

More stored water is not always the best answer. The cylinder must work with the available supply and heat source, while fitting the property. We explain the proposed capacity and its assumptions so you can understand what is being designed for.

06 · Plan the space around the system

Plan the installation before closing the cupboard

A cylinder needs a workable installation position, not simply enough space for its outer diameter. We check the route in and out, the weight when full, room for connections and future maintenance, and a suitable safety-discharge route.

Keeping the existing location may reduce disruption. Relocating the cylinder can release useful space elsewhere, but the additional pipework, controls and access requirements must be assessed before joinery is ordered.

In a leasehold property, permissions depend on the lease and the proposed changes. We identify work affecting shared services or building fabric so the necessary coordination can take place. This is separate from the applicable Building Regulations process.

We also agree protection of the working area and clarify any opening-up, reinstatement or decorating involved. That gives you and your builder a more useful basis for planning than an equipment-only quotation.

07 · One coordinated scope

One coordinated scope for plumbing, heating and controls

A new cylinder can involve several trades even when it sits inside one cupboard. PEP combines heating and plumbing installation with electrical expertise, so the connections, power supplies and control requirements can be planned together.

For a wider refurbishment, our central heating and plant-room installations in Fulham bring the hot-water system into the overall design. For a focused replacement, we define the changes needed without turning it into an unnecessary whole-house upgrade.

Where electrical work is required, we coordinate it with our electrical installation service in Fulham. The chosen controls must be compatible with the equipment they operate. A new app or thermostat does not, by itself, establish that compatibility; our guide to heating and hot-water controls explores the options.

08 · A clear specification. An informed quotation.

What affects cylinder installation cost in Fulham?

A replacement in an accessible cupboard is a different project from moving the cylinder or converting a gravity-fed system. The purchase price of the vessel is only one part of the quotation.

We define the proposed work around:

  • the cylinder type, capacity and selected equipment;
  • which existing components can remain and which must change;
  • pipework, safety arrangements, electrical work and controls;
  • access, removal of the old equipment and any relocation;
  • any necessary work on the water supply or wider system;
  • testing, commissioning, documentation and the agreed handover.

The proposal should make materials, VAT, disposal and exclusions clear. Where opening-up, joinery alterations or making good are required, we establish whether they form part of our work or need coordination with your builder.

Send us your postcode, a description of the project and, if convenient, photographs of the existing cylinder and surrounding space. These help us identify the next step; they do not replace checks that need to be made at the property.

09 · Assessment to handover

A clear route from enquiry to working hot water

  1. Establish the brief. Tell us what is being replaced, what is changing in the home and what you need the hot-water system to support.
  2. Assess the installation. We review the supply, existing equipment, access and relevant building constraints before finalising the specification.
  3. Agree the scope. The proposal identifies the equipment, work, exclusions and arrangements for access and interruption to the hot-water supply.
  4. Install and commission. We complete the agreed connections, controls and checks, then explain operation, documentation and ongoing care.

The installation programme depends on the confirmed scope. A straightforward replacement and a conversion involving new routes should not be promised the same completion time.

10 · Safety, documentation and ongoing care

Safety, documentation and support after installation

Unvented hot-water work requires appropriate competence, including the safety principles addressed by G3. The installation must include the correct protection and discharge arrangements for the selected system. These are integral to the work, not optional extras.

We establish the relevant Building Regulations notification or certification route and provide the applicable commissioning and handover information. In England, Approved Document G provides guidance on hot-water safety. A completed commissioning record and Building Regulations compliance documentation serve different purposes.

We explain the manufacturer's maintenance and warranty conditions for the chosen product. Cover for the vessel can differ from cover for valves, controls, immersion heaters and labour; a long headline warranty should not be read as identical cover for every component.

Our unvented cylinder servicing guide explains ongoing care and why maintenance records matter.

11 · Connected installation expertise

Hot-water work backed by wider installation experience

PEP's work spans plumbing, heating and electrical installations. That wider experience matters when a cylinder replacement meets an existing boiler, a changing bathroom layout or controls that also serve the heating.

Questions about unvented cylinder installation in Fulham

How much does an unvented cylinder installation cost?

The cost depends on the cylinder and the surrounding work. A like-for-like replacement, relocation and vented-to-unvented conversion have different requirements. We assess the installation before confirming the scope, price and exclusions, rather than present an equipment-only figure as the cost of a complete job.

Can you replace the cylinder without replacing the boiler?

Yes, where the existing boiler is suitable, serviceable and compatible with the proposed cylinder and controls. We assess that combination before specification. Replacing a cylinder does not automatically justify replacing the boiler as well.

Will a new unvented cylinder fix low water pressure?

Not necessarily. A restricted main, shared supply or problem elsewhere in the installation can remain after replacement. We investigate the available supply and the cause of poor performance before recommending changes.

Can the system run two showers at once?

That can be a design objective, but it depends on the supply, distribution, shower requirements and available hot water. Tell us which outlets you expect to use together so we can assess the complete demand rather than promise performance from cylinder size alone.

Can you replace a direct electric cylinder in a flat?

Yes. We assess the existing hot-water arrangement, electrical supply, controls and installation space. In a managed building, we also establish whether the relevant services are private or shared and what access arrangements are needed.

Will the new cylinder fit in the same cupboard?

Possibly, but matching the vessel dimensions is not enough. Connections, safety equipment, service access and the route for removing and installing the cylinders all need checking. We confirm suitability before treating the existing cupboard as the final location.

Is Megaflo different from an unvented cylinder?

Megaflo is a brand of unvented hot-water cylinders. Its ranges include different sizes and heating arrangements. We select an appropriate specification rather than assume that the brand name alone identifies the right replacement.

Do I need permission from the freeholder?

That depends on your lease and the proposed work, particularly where shared services or building fabric are involved. Check the arrangements with the freeholder or managing agent before work begins. Leasehold permission and Building Regulations compliance are separate matters.

What paperwork and warranty information will I receive?

We provide the relevant commissioning and handover information and arrange the applicable Building Regulations compliance process. We also explain the selected product's warranty, registration and maintenance requirements. The exact documents depend on the installation and the route used.

How long will I be without hot water?

We agree the expected interruption once the scope and access are confirmed. Removing an existing cylinder and commissioning its replacement takes the service out of use; conversions and relocations may require a longer programme. Tell us early about any constraints affecting the household.
